About the Company

SchoolTalent is a tech-savvy platform that connects students (primary and high school) with tutors. We make it easy for students to find their ideal tutor and manage their learning journey with user-friendly tools designed for students, parents, and tutors alike.
We are currently active in:

• The Netherlands (Bijles Aan Huis)
• Germany (Lernigo)

We are a fast-growing EdTech startup with a fully remote team of 20 professionals from the Netherlands, Germany, Romania and Turkey, working collaboratively to make tutoring more accessible and impactful. As a well-backed company, we’re now expanding our team to build the next generation of tools that transform tutoring.

About Our Development Team

Our team is small but strong, with a strong focus on collaboration and Agile principles. It currently consists of:

• 2.5 FTE on the frontend
• 1 FTE on the backend
• 0.2 FTE on site reliability

We are in the final stages of migrating our application from a PHP monolith to Golang microservices with an Angular frontend. Once this migration is complete, our focus will be improving existing features and designing and building new features, some examples:

• A B2B account system to enable business-focused services.
• An improved matching algorithm to connect students with the best tutors.
• Automation tools for cancellations and refunds through Stripe.
• Refactoring and improving existing tools for maintainability and scalability.

Your Responsibilities

As a Go Backend Developer, you will:

• Be a core member of the development team, contributing directly to our mission.
• Take ownership of building and maintaining backend microservices.
• Ensure high-quality, maintainable code by following best practices.
• Research and recommend cutting-edge technologies to solve complex challenges.
• Collaborate closely with the frontend, QA, and product teams to deliver seamless features and enhance the user experience.

Who We’re Looking For

We believe the best fit for this role is someone who:

• Has 1-4 years of experience designing and building microservices.
• Understands the challenges of distributed systems, such as:
  • Communication patterns
  • Monitoring and logging
  • Scalability
  • Failure handling
• Is proficient in Go and excited to work with it daily.
• Knows how to ensure high-quality code through practices like TDD, unit testing, and integration testing.
• Has experience with container-based services like Docker or Kubernetes.
• Brings practical experience with AWS or similar cloud providers.
• Ideally, has worked with technologies such as:
  • Queue-based communication
  • Redis
  • RESTful services
  • MongoDB
  • MySQL
  • Git
